Chinese Language Learning
The school was founded in 1989 with the mission to provide a place to learn Chinese language and get exposure to Chinese culture. At the start, most of the members were ethnic Chinese families. However, this has expanded to include non-Chinese community’s members in the Northern Virginia area.

The NVCS offers Chinese language courses including Phonic (zhuyin) and Pinyin (used in Mainland China) for students ranging from pre-K to 12th grade. NVCS also offers Chinese conversation classes to non-Chinese-speaking youths and adults. NVCS breaks classes into 14 levels.

Currently, classes are held at the George Marshall High School, located at 7731 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22043 (google map).

Classes take place from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Sundays. Class terms generally range from September to June.

Weekly NVCS Activities
The NVCS is also very proud to offer other elective cultural and athletic classes including:

• Chinese Folk Dance
• Karate/Kung-Fu
• Drawing/Painting
• Tennis for Kids
• Line Dance
• Tennis and Golf for Adults

These activities take place between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.

Special Events
In addition to the weekly classes, the NVCS regularly sponsors various events within the school and participates in social events in the Washington Metropolitan Chinese School Association (WMCSA) and local communities. NVCS regular social activities include:

• Traditional Mid-Autumn Festival & Picnic
• Halloween Parade
• Santa Visits NVCS
• Chinese Lunar New Year Festival & Luncheon
• Mother’s Day celebration

NVCS Competitions
In terms of academic activities, the Chinese speech contest, the Chinese words contest, and the Teacher Day Celebration are three major events sponsored by the NVCS annually.

The Northern Virginia Chinese School is part of the Washington Metropolican Association of Chinese Schools. Northern Virginia Chinese School is an IRS Section 501( C )(3) Nonprofit Organization. All contributions are tax deductible.
