The History of the Northern Virginia Chinese School
The school was founded in 1989 with the mission to provide a place to learn Chinese and to get exposure to Chinese culture. It was originally focused on the next generation of ethnic Chinese families, but it has expanded to include non-Chinese community’s members in the Northern Virginia area.
The NVCS was created by the American Citizens of Taiwan Origin, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging greater citizen participation. ACTO’s founder was Mike Chen.
The NVCS continues to be run based on the generous contribution of its members in time and in money.
